The Four Churches Festival

May 2006

In January 2006, Rick sat down with a group of locals including Trevor Riess (a.k.a. ‘Trev The Rev’!) and decided upon a week’s events to not only to raise funds but to generally promote the four churches that made up Trevor’s parish and their part in the local community in which Rick lives.

A varied event list was put together with performances arranged and organised by Rick, calling upon his various friends in ‘the industry’. I won’t go into full detail here as there’s more already written and available on the web like here.....

“Stars make music & laughter in churches”

Although opening for the guest performers on some nights, Rick was set to ‘headline’ on Monday 22nd May at Brockdish Church, and again on Saturday 27th May. Monday being a varied night accompanied by Ramon Remedios, and on Saturday, two performances (they sold out the original one very quickly!) of Rick’s ‘The New Gospels’. This was sung by Ramon, and alongside he and Rick were Ian Lavender narrating, Adam Wakeman on keyboards also, and Guy Protheroe conducting The English Chamber Choir.

The church at Brockdish was packed to the hilt on both Monday & Saturday, and the press also came along to interview people too, (The Eastern Daily Press). Monday was a good night with amongst other things the welcome return of ‘The Barber Of Wigan’! It was also Mike Holden’s 50th Birthday that day - and a cake was duly presented (& then consumed back at the hotel afterwards!) Saturday was a long day but everything went well and after two performances I think everyone was knackered! The last task of the day, break everything down and get stuff back in vans or in the case of Rick’s stuff - we got that on an open farm trailer and back to his house!
